Maximizing Natural Light & Functionality
Natural Light
This new office space was designed to inspire employees to leave the comfort of their homes and return to work, with human well-being as our top priority. Located in downtown Comox, the office boasts beautiful views of the mountains and marina.
To maximize these views and natural daylight, two office spaces were created with glass walls and sliding doors. Visual privacy is provided through tinted window films that obscure the view but maintain natural daylight. Sound privacy was more challenging, so we utilized two approaches: using 2-ply safety glass and applying sound-absorbing cork to the back walls.
The kitchenette was updated to optimize storage with ceiling-height upper cabinets and a built-in microwave. As the kitchenette was a focal point of the room, we painted the cabinets in Benjamin Moore’s Barrington Green, creating the illusion of a tree growing into the space. A naturally stained alder countertop accentuated this feeling with its warm wood tones.
A seating area was located next to the kitchen with stunning views of the marina and mountains. Stools in a warm tan coordinated well with the alder countertop and provided a casual meeting area with the bar-height table.
Extra workspaces were delineated with bookshelves in a natural finish that also provided needed storage. A modern digital conference room was created in the backroom with a tan leather sectional matching the kitchen stools, complemented by a mid-century rug in green and cream.
