A Forest-Inspired Focal Point
Rock and Timber
This living room design was updated to create a cozy West Coast space in which the homeowner and their family could unwind and connect. We utilized the principles of Hygge, a style that originated in Denmark, to accomplish this. Hygge is a concept that embodies comfort and warmth and can easily be personalized to fit individual tastes.
The main wall had an existing gas fireplace, which was a natural focal point. We used a warm grey paint to create the illusion of a large modern rock fireplace. We left the shelving white, as they reflected the built-in lighting, embodying the feeling of candles—an essential to hygge. The wall behind the TV was covered in cork in a birch pattern, bringing in natural warmth in addition to its sound-absorbing capacity.
